Region & Habitat:
Native to South and Southeast Asia, Acacia de la India is commonly found in India, Myanmar, Thailand, and surrounding regions. It thrives in dry deciduous forests and is widely cultivated for its valuable wood and botanical resin.

Traditional & Cultural Use:
Acacia catechu has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Unani systems of health for centuries. The heartwood extract, known as “catechu” or “katha,” has been used in dyeing, tanning, and as a component of traditional mouth fresheners and herbal blends. In the UK and EU, it has been present in imported botanical goods, craft formulations, and dye preparations since before the 20th century.

Preparation & Application:
Used as a natural colourant and astringent component in herbal blends, incense, and craft preparations. Not sold for internal use unless authorised. Often combined with other aromatic herbs or powdered botanicals in cultural products.

Organoleptic Notes:
Reddish-brown fine powder with a mildly bitter, earthy scent. Astringent to taste. Commonly used in small amounts due to potency.
