Carqueja tea, made from Carqueja leaves. Significant benefits for the liver. It is known to lower blood sugar, be anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and lower blood pressure. Also, a diuretic, removing body water. Traditionally used for treating wounds, gut pain, and ulcers. Later used for diabetes. Carqueja lowers blood sugar by preventing sugar absorption in the digestive tract. More recent research shows promise for Alzheimer’s and neurodegeneration.

Used in folk medicine in Latin America, traditionally for soothing wounds by the Guarani Indians of Southern Latin America. Later as a tonic for gut problems and diabetes.

Dosage and Preparation

Ideal as a herbal tea. Bring 700ml filtered water in a stainless steel pan to a boil.

2 tablespoons of Carqueja and let steep for 10 minutes. Carqueja can be left in the pan and reused 2-3 times over 2 days, with strength increasing as the leaves break down.

Drink the tea and apply leaves directly to problematic skin conditions.
